Olivenhain Reservoir from the Brooks Overlook

A good day. We didn’t have any plans for the day until some research identified the Elfin Forest Recreation Reserve near Escondido. Creates an image of Lord of the Rings and a forest full of elves. It wasn’t like that as you can see. Chaparral was the main vegetation along with drought resistant plants that are typical of the area.

There was a steep access route to the areas set of trails on of the main ridge. Fine views of the surrounding hills and the Olivenhain Reservoir one of a chain of such reservoirs in Southern California built to ensure water supplies in the event of imported water being disrupted as a result of a significant earthquake.

We couldn’t see the ocean as ebbing and flowing coastal cloud obscured the view. Lots of fascinating wildlife and nature, lizards of course, thousands of bees buzzing around loads of colourful flowers.

Son and grandson came over late afternoon for tea. Enjoying their company very much. Valuing every moment with them.

I phoned the contact number for the “owner” of the Airbnb who turned out to be the agent rather than the owner. She had a story about change in management and new people in place as being responsible for the problem on the first night and the subsequent deficiencies in the property.

She couldn’t apologise enough (although she could hardly do anything else) and is refunding two days rental and will put right all the other issues. A result and an end to the long sequence of incidents which have plagued our trip. Thank you for all your messages of concern and support. All being well, the remaining days should be good. (Not tempting fate!)
