Memory Lane
Took a trip down memory lane today. Or to be more precise Test Lane, on the outskirts of Southampton. It’s so named because it closely follows the route of the final stretch of the River Test before it merges with the open sea of Southampton Water.
Memory lane because it is base for the newspaper which occupied the greater part of my working life, the Daily Echo and associated local publications. A nostalgic trip because it is 16 years ago today that I spent my last official day working there.
Test Lane is close to, but not part of the stretch of the Test Way near its estuary, although the Test Way itself is a 44-mile long walking route through Hampshire which runs from nearby Eling Wharf to the chalk downs of Inkpen in the north of the county.
