Hiroshima
Back blip
A day of history which is well known worldwide. I wasn’t sure how I would feel.
First of all we visited a garden…surprise, yet another one….!!It was Shukkeien Gardens, which was modelled on a 1620 landscape in Hangzhou, China. The picture in extras show the tranquil scenes surrounded by modern city building. I was so surprised at how quiet it was, no traffic noise or sirens.
We then visited the Peace Memorial Park, home to the Eternal Peace Flame, the fire that will not be extinguished until the last nuclear weapon is dismantled. There was a group of children at the Children’s Peace Monument singing, delightful to hear.
The blip is of the Atomic Bomb Dome, the skeleton of a dome built in 1915 which was at the epicentre of the site of complete destruction, but some walls the dome’s steel frame remain standing.
The museum was comprehensive, thought provoking and viewed in silence by the many visitors. We could have spent more time reading all the information and viewing the pictures. This should be essential education for all. A most interesting day.
