Nature Diary... A Bright Sunny Day

A Day of Historic Celebrations

The day started quietly with the sun blazing down from a clear blue sky. One lonely carrot missed from last year’s harvest has burst into a beautiful rosette of flowers which I was happy to photograph after I’d set out breakfast for my regular wild bird visitors. Then it was time for my own breakfast and to sit back and enjoy what turned out to be a delightful day.

The extra photo shows Australia’s 23 year old Ash Barty who won the French Open tennis singles title at Roland Garros today with a straight-sets win over Marketa Vondrousova. Ash is the first Australian woman to win the title since 1973. It was good to see Ash with 7-times French Open winner Christ Evert who was presented with a special trophy for her achievements at Roland Garros, and wonderful to see the marvellous Australian Rod Laver, ranked the number 1 professional tennis player from 1964 to 1970, now 80 years old.

Also as shown in the extra photo, today in London many hundreds of thousands of people gathered to see the Trooping of the Colour, which celebrates Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s official birthday, with her Majesty now being 93 years old. A splendid tribute to a wonderfully dignified lady, the United Kingdom’s longest reigning monarch ever.

And the sun shone on everyone all day.
