More local history...
... in my Harrogate Then & Now series.
This row of shops, on James Street, was going to be an easy project, or so I thought. The upper windows have not changed much since the original picture was taken sometime in the 1920s. However, it was raining at the time (so I wanted to stay under the cover of the shops across the road) and I think, to get the angle correct, I would have needed to stand in the road (not a good idea on this particularly busy street). There was an added complication of alterations to the rear of the hotel on the extreme right of the picture.
Nevertheless, I hope this shows a reasonable comparison.
