Got a call this morning to get to the hospital,
abandoned everything and headed over see mum.

She didn't really seem any different from last night apart from not being rigged up to the drip.

Dad, Rob and I were called into see the nurse in charge to be told that mum was failing and that they'd like permission to withdraw all fluids and to keep her free from pain until the end.

It was a hard call, but the only call to make.

We took turns to sit with mum and talk to her, she was obviously in pain. I reasurred her it was all ok and that the nurse would come to give her something for the pain, she was conscious and knew we were there.

The nurse attached mum to a syringe driver this afternoon which would give a controlled amount of drugs including morphine which would go in over the next 24hrs.

I did a quick trip home to collect some clothes and returned to the hospital a couple of hours later.

Mum was quiet and unresponsive, but pain free.

An exhausting day, I went home with dad. The nurses will ring if there is any change
