DERELICT SUNDAY

As it was Pentecost today, we were encouraged to wear something red to church.  Because I had nothing in that colour, when our friends, Frank and Rachel had come round to watch the Liverpool v. Spurs game just over a week ago, I asked Frank if I could borrow his Liverpool scarf.  Mr. HCB was not happy!  However, in a spirit of love, he did agree that I could sit next to him for the sermon, after I had sung in the Worship Group, but in deference to him, I removed the scarf!

As usual on a Sunday, we went out looking for dereliction and found this crop sprayer or slurry tanker by the side of the road, next to a field of barley - so job done!  We did stand and watch the barley swaying in the wind and both said how calming it was just to stand and watch this, then to look for the tiny insects on the ears of the barley.  Reminded me of the poem by William Henry Davies that has the line, "What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare."

We had a lovely ride through the countryside and have found a couple more places to go back to sometime.  It was a beautiful sunny day, although as you can see, the clouds were gathering and we hadn’t been home for many minutes before the heavens opened - and the rain was lashing down again.

Mr. HCB is happy now because he is watching cricket on the television - he says that India seem to be in control at the moment, so we are sorry for any Aussie Blippers who might be watching too.  Mind you, he was even happier when England won yesterday.

Hope you all have a good week - and may the sun shine on you, wherever you are.

“There is nothing so beautiful,
     lovable and moving
          as the English countryside.”

P.S.  Thank you for all your kind comments for my Silly Saturday Blip yesterday.
