Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2019 Saturday — Grandkids

Today we had a date with our granddaughter Desiree and her family. The plan was to meet them in Carlsbad. They would drive north from San Diego and we would drive south from Corona, so we could all meet in Carlsbad, which was slightly further than the halfway mark for us, but a little easier than driving completely to San Diego.

The time with them was more than wonderful. We met at a taco restaurant; the food was good, but being with the grandkids was even better. Little Emillia is now 4 months old, Jade is 3 1/2 years and Tristan is 12 1/2. Desiree is beautiful and a very good momma, and our grandson-in-law, Justin, is a really nice guy, a very good daddy, and a member of the U.S.Navy.

After our meal, we walked inside the shopping mall (the restaurant is located outside the mall) to go to the playground so Jade could play. She has an inexhaustible abundance of energy, and watching her play was crazy fun.

When we said our goodbyes, Mr. Fun took a look at the map on his phone and decided to drive home the coastal route.

Meeting in Carlsbad had double meaning for Mr. Fun and me because it is the city where my Grammie Teele had lived. Before meeting the kids, we stopped at the cemetery to see Grammie’s and Grandpa’s gravesites; we had never done that before. We usually stop in front of the house where Grammie lived. The writing on Grandpa’s headstone is almost completely worn away. I suppose Grammie did not have much money at the time of his death and purchased an inexpensive stone for the marker, so the surface has worn away. Grammie died 7 years later, but a gravestone was not placed for many years later, so her marker is still adequate.

This was a very good day; the first day of my summer recess.
