Noto
Today we went over to Noto. This is a UNESCO listed town about 30 Kms from Siracusa. By the time we were there and back this was essentially a full day trip.
The town is famous for having been entirely rebuilt after an earthquake in 1673 (date from memory). The buildings are in bright stonework and are all built from the same stone, many in quite grandiose style. We were not entirely sure why there should be such an impressive town in what is a fairly remote location.
In the evening we were back in Siracusa and had a very nice meal at a small fish restaurant next to the sea front. It had been recommended to us by the receptionist in the hotel. The recommendation was obviously genuine as we met her at the restaurant when she came in herself for dinner.
