Would Al Lie To You?

This is ‘René.’

I shared a flat with ‘René’ for a year when I was an art student in Paris. He always spoke to me in French and told me that he was named after, and related to, the famous artist René Magritte. It was many years later, when I bumped into him by chance in a pub in Nottingham, that he admitted his real name was Duncan and that he was from Stoke-on-Trent.
