Breakfast
Back blip
After our traditional Japanese dinner last night, we dressed in our Kimonos for breakfast and were presented with this selection!! Where do you start…….with the fruit and yoghurt on the back row!!!
The view from our window was interesting. See how the mountainside is shored up and secured so that houses can be built right up to the edge. 70% of Japan is mountainous so restricting the land available for food production. We passed many small, relatively speaking, fields which were planted with rice. These could be a plot of land between houses, nothing was wasted.
We headed out to travel to Mt Fuji, a 3-4hr journey. We stopped at the 5thStation, an area for parking, refreshments etc!! The paperwork said that the mountain was “notoriously shy” and true to form we didn’t get a clear view of the top.
We continued southbound to Atami, a costal town. It is also well known for it’s hot springs and traditional bathing. Another traditional dinner was on the menu……I’m quite adept with the chopsticks…..but acquiring a taste for the food is slow.
Not wishing to offend anyone with sensitive tastes…..I will mention toilets!!! In the few days that we have been here I have been so impressed with the cleanliness and quality of the toilets found in public and private places. Spotlessly clean, no litter or damage. You even get a warm seat if required, and some have a system where by when you flush the toilet the water runs in the hand washing basin, ready for your use!!!
