180°
Flooding started. Our cellar pump can't cope so additional resources had to be found. Time to get the drain in the forest cleared out again - needs to be done every 4-5 years. Ought to check Blip to see when it was last done.
No serious problems though & I think the ground is quite happy to take whatever it can get. If it's a waning moon, won't be a problem. Just sad that some farmers put out lots of slurry on the freshly mown fields despite the flood warnings!
I am not up to date with the latest flood defence measures locally after the crises around 2005. There were lots of objections from various "interested" parties! I still think the idea of the area on the Blip being used as a flood plain & the road embankment simply being reinforced a bit would be an ideal, inexpensive solution. The photo is a 180° shot taken outside our front gate. The stream on the right flows alongside our property, once under the road bridge.
Flood defence or better flood plains is a sensible way we at the top of the Danube watershed can help all those who get far more problems further westwards in Bavaria, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine. Just need everybody to think further than the end of their noses, especially as in the past, we have done so much by straightening rivers to make our agribusiness bigger and speeding up the flooding.
