The Old Forge (Tuesday 4th June 2019)

It is obligatory to photograph my cotinus (Cotinus coggygria) when it blooms, as it has just done this year. This is the cultivar Royal Purple. Its plumes of flowers are the reason it is known as a smoke tree. It dates from the early Pliocene epoch, as fossils of it have been found in the Caucasus region of Western Georgia, but mine only dates from the early nineties when I bought it at Bowood Garden Centre.

Little Richard - I Don't Know What You Got, But It's Got Me (recorded 1965, Chicago IL)
Before Jimi Hendrix came to England, formed the Experience and changed musical history he spent many years on the road as a jobbing guitarist, serving time with the Isley Brothers and Little Richard in his touring band, the Upsetters. He only appeared on one Little Richard single, though, a Don Covay song recorded for the Vee-Jay label. His tendency to upstage Little Richard allegedly shortened his tenure with the band. The first disc of the Jimi Hendrix West Coast Seattle Boy box set, played on this day, is devoted to his early appearances on record, starting with an Isley Brothers single from 1964, and includes this track.
