Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2019 Wednesday — For the Record

I was surprised, humbled, and extremely appreciative that my student Diane placed this envelope on my desk as she handed-in her final writing assignment yesterday afternoon in my two o’clock class.

My college students almost never give me gifts. They work too hard as students in my class to even consider giving me a gift or a thank you. They just want to get the heck out, earn a passing grade, and be on their way.

Several male students stayed after class to verbally express their gratitude. Again, that is very humbling and rewarding.

My two o’clock class was the hardest one this semester. There was just a constant quiet resistance from them the entire semester. It was kind of a “I dare you to teach me” attitude.

Yesterday as soon as class was over and I opened and read Diane’s card, I sent her an email. I wrote, “Diane: Your words mean more to me than anything you could have gifted me with. I love coffee; I love Starbucks! Thank YOU for this gift. I almost never receive a “thank you” from students! So what you’ve done is amazing! Carol”

Good night from Southern California,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
