Mt. Greylock State Reservation
No progress with the RV issues, they’re “still looking” for somebody to do the repairs and they “can’t find another suitable RV near our location”.
We moved from Interlake in New York to Pownal in the SW corner of Vermont - a very interesting and pleasant journey through small towns, rolling countryside and lovely old houses. All very lush and green and very much like old England, except for driving on the other side of the road.
Our main destination on the way to Pownal was the Mt Greylock State Reservation which is in the Appalachian Mountains and contains the highest peak in Massachusetts. Having gone on a propane hunt and chasing elusive and ultimately derelict shopping malls we were later that I expected arriving at the Greylock visitors centre. Very informative, giving us options of a short walk in the woods (Bill Bryson - Appalachian Trial) I ignored the proffered route in favour of a short but strenuous 1 mile uphill hike to the Appalachian Trail.
We walked just 1/2 a mile along this iconic trail just to say we’d been on it and to add it to our collection of American long distance paths having walked a (small) section of the Pacific Crest Trail some years ago. That only leaves the Continental Divide Trail to complete the Triple Crown of US Thro’ Hikes.
Another very pleasant site, Pine Hollows in Pownal VT, all the sites have been very different and all very good. Raining hard but I like hearing that sound on the RV roof.
Today’s blip is your journalist on the way to the Appalachian Trail.
