Crazy!
Oh my goodness, never again, but so we learn...
Most London Tube drivers went on strike today, so the family thought to go to nearby Westfield at Stratford to get a certain item for our son - one of a few stations that had limited travel available. Madhouse! as you'll notice from the picture above.
When we at last managed to get out of Westfield at 5.30pm, the line back to our house was no longer operating, so had to take the bus. Huge crowds, and once pushed onto the bus by the masses, a few inconsiderates refused to leave the bus so the doors could close - way too many people on the bus. The driver refused to move until they've stepped off the bus. Deadlock.
After about 15mins of shouting, moaning and disbelief, a transport officer had to physically remove people. Never seen anything like this and I'm convinced that in any other 1st world country, people would abide by rules and obey the driver, taking the safety of other people (and themselves mind you), into consideration.
Once the bus got going, I was biting my nails all the way home. The bus was leaning dangerously to the left and at one stage, the engine was moaning badly and something below scraped the road at intervals.
Now I'm home safe & sound and really really relieved. Learnt that under pressure people can become like animals - not a pretty sight.
