Floral Lock

I walked down to Bingley and caught the train to Saltaire for my recorder lesson this morning.  I have to concentrate on tone and strength on the higher notes for my homework.  Strange how I tootle fine in the privacy of our study but as soon as I have teacher Fiona watching me, it all goes to pot!

Afterwards I met up with pal Helen and we had a cuppa and rocky road at the Victoria Tea room before taking a circular walk along the river to Dowley Gap and back along the canal to Saltaire.  We paused for a while here at the Hirst Wood locks to take a look at the small nature reserve which we first visited some months ago.  The volunteers have planted up  sections around the locks with wildflowers and they were buzzing with bees.  We then wandered in and around the reserve, chatting to the two women who had just taken receipt of a smashing willow lion which was taking 'pride' of place in a central spot.

We resumed our walk along the canal, bumping in to a friend of Helen's who was cycling home on the towpath, and then back at Saltaire we spotted friend Christine who was heading in to the Mill with granddaughter Georgia for lunch!  After a quick catch up it was back in the car and home.

It is Global Running Day so this evening several Hobblers will be joining the Snails, and no doubt many others, for a social run in Myrtle Park.
