Rousse Loophole Tower

A lovely walk starting and finishing at Rousse. The subject was how draining the Braye du Valle in the early 19th century made Guernsey into one island.
The Loophole towers were built in 1778; 15 of them around the coast. The reason was the American War of Independence. France sided with America and Britain feared we may become a target for the French.
Most people wrongly call these Martello towers. Martello towers were built in the 19th century following the French Revolution.
