Ivory carving

The conservation team at Oxburgh had the ivory cabinet open so I was able to get a really close look at the intricate carving on this little pedestal and the ball which sits on the top of it (see extra). The ball is unbelievable - it has six concentric balls inside the beautifully carved outer, made from a single elephant tusk in the 19th century.
