Newlyn Harbour
Friday
This morning, after breakfast, we left Janet’s and headed down to Penzance, ready for our boat to the Scilly Isles tomorrow afternoon. (For my American readers, the Scilly Isles are a group of islands, located about 28 miles off the extreme south West Point of England, at Lands End). We drove as far as Truro, where we returned our rental car, then took the train to Penzance, the car rental being conveniently located adjacent to the railway station. It had been a rather overcast morning, but as the train journey progressed - only about 45 minutes - the sun began to break through. Our accommodation in Penzance was about a 15 minute walk from the station, and is located even closer to the quay where we will board the ship tomorrow. We received a very warm welcome at the B&B, and they brought us tea and cake to enjoy in the sunshine, on their patio at the front of the house, with a view of the sea. After our tea, we went for a bit of a walk around town, and then followed the coastal path along to the adjacent fishing port of Newlyn, shown in my blip, apparently home to one of the biggest fishing fleets in the country. We then returned to our accommodation to freshen up before going out for an enjoyable seafood meal near the quay. I’ve added a couple of extras, of the Egyptian House in Penzance, and a huge jellyfish we saw in the harbour.
