Sunset over Sandnessjoen

Finished yesterday's journal a bit too soon and forgot the excursion was all over by 1pm. Later in the afternoon, we arrived in Stokmarknes, which is where the original idea for the Hurtigruten ferries was conceived in 1881 and where there is a fascinating company museum. There was also an opportunity to visit one of the earlier ships called Finnmarken and the contrast between the older ship and our modern vessel was fascinating.

We continued our journey back south, returning to Svolvaer and Stamsund and sailing through the night to arrive in Ornes by morning. There was another "Crossing the Arctic Circle" ceremony, mainly for new passengers, but no ice cubes were involved in this one!

Sailing on, we passed through Nesna and Sandnessjoen and by the time we left there at 13.30, the sun was setting again in the sky. However, we did manage to glimpse a view of a beautiful mountain range of jagged peaks, called the "Seven Sisters" on the way.

Then it was dark again and we only saw Bronnoysund and Rorvik in the dark, but with all their Christmas lights twinkling a welcome.
