Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Christmas with Five Generations of Family

This has been an immensely enjoyable, meaningful day. It has also been lots of work. We haven't presented the Christmas dinner at our home for a number of years, so remembering all the little details to make it all come together was vitality important.

Five generations gathered from 90 year-old Grammie Fun to little Tristan, who is NOT 6 years-old, but soon to be 6 years-old (in February). Tristan stole the show and Grammie enjoyed herself immensely while being surrounded by family.

By all definition we are a dysfunctional family, but no one would have guessed that today. We had a very good time. The meal, which was mostly prepared by Mr. Fun, was quite delicious.

We usually move into the family room to open gifts, but today our granddaughter Desiree brought their new puppy Brody, a 4 month old pitbull, with them from San Diego. (So our three pooches spent the afternoon in their crates, mostly because they wouldn't leave Brody alone. They wanted to sniff, hump, and chase him. Next time they see him, he'll have them for a snack.) So because the pups were in the crates, we stayed in the formal dining room and opened presents right at the dining table.

Watching Tristan open his gifts was such fun. He wasn't into quality; he was into quantity. It wasn't about what he got, but how much. I think he just simply loved the idea of unwrapping. His mom had to remind him to take a look at what he had just unwrapped before rushing to the next gift.

Tristan is still a very small little boy; he speaks clearly with such a vocabulary that he makes us all laugh. He knows words that we would have never dreamed he knows. He is in kindergarten and he lives with his father. Desiree gets to have him every other weekend and she has him now for the next two weeks while school in on a holiday break. We gave Desiree, Tristan, and Desiree's boyfriend, Justin, Disney Bucks so they can have a day at the magic kingdom hopefully before it is time again for school. Justin was not here today because he is a helicopter mechanic in the U.S. Navy and was on call. We first met him back in October when he came to Grammie Fun's 90th birthday party.

It is now five minutes to midnight. I am spent; Mr. Fun is next to me on the sofa snoozing; therefore, I am going to sign-off and do some more commenting later.

Merry Christmas everyone.
