Four Seasons in One Day

My Dear Princess & Dear Fellows,

I do not know if "four seasons in one day" was a thing before Crowded House made it a thing. But it is a phrase the Wellingtonians use a lot - and for good reason.

Here's the thing. As a Pom, I am used to weather that sticks around, stays a while. We're having a heatwave? You've got at least two or three days to organise ice, mint and rum and start making yourself mojitos. It's overcast, dreich and chilly? Put on the soup and pour yourself a whisky. It is easy to make plans.

New Zealand, not so much. Yesterday was full of howling gales, driving rain and wintry showers. It was much the same this morning. But then lunchtime happened. I strolled about outside without my jacket. It was lovely and sunny and warm.

As I write this in the evening, heavy rain is pouring down. It is so loud it has disturbed Punky's sleep. But look - JUST LOOK WILL YOU - at my picture, taken not 4 hours ago.

The temperature can drop away, like four seasons in one day.

I think it's the ever-present wind. It puts a boot up the bum of any weather front. I guess it's a good thing, you don't get that sense of being trapped in the house for days on end. But on the other hand I am not sure if it is whisky weather, or mojito weather.

Oh well, I suppose I'll just have to cover all the bases to be on the safe side.

S.

UPDATE: Caro says it was a thing before Crowded House made it a thing.
