Chappaquiddick and Edgartown

A trio of collages today, as I was spoiled for choice!  This morning we walked from the hotel to the "On Time Ferry" which constantly travels the very short distance between Edgartown and Chappaquiddick on Martha's Vineyard.  (The ferry ride lasts all of about one minute.)  Once we arrived, we were met by Eli, our guide for the Cape Pogue Lighthouse tour we booked.  I think we can thank the cold, gray weather for the fact that we were the only two people taking the trip today.  Our first stop was at the Mytoi Japanese Garden -- a really lovely spot full of blooming rhododendrons and azaleas and other beautiful plantings.  It was so peaceful there.  We then clambered up into the back of an open pick up truck with benches running along the sides, and drove over the bridge involved in the infamous Chappaquiddick incident, and into the dunes towards the Cape Poge Light.  We saw lots of sea birds, including cormorants, osprey, plovers, terns, oyster catchers, and gulls.  We also saw a couple of oyster catcher nests (called "scrapes") on the sand.  We climbed to the top of the lighthouse to gaze at the view -- beautiful but really very chilly up there! -- before driving back on the sand along the shore to the ferry.  We had a nice meander through the streets of Edgartown before having lunch at a nice harbourside restaurant.

Extras:  A collage of the Mytoi Garden, and one of some Edgartown sights.
