Demanding shelter

This man is one of a group of houseless people and their allies on their way on foot (and unicycle, scooter, walker, and canes) from Portland to Salem to present our State government with a list of demands as follows:

• Declare a statewide Housing State of Emergency
• Stop the inhumane and unconstitutional sweeps when there is no place for people to go
• We demand affordable housing for all
• We demand an end to the targeting of homeless people by the police
• We demand basic services, water, trash, and toilets
• We demand that self-governing, peer run, innovative communities are allowed.

They have so far walked nearly 50 miles since last Thursday. They asked me to document their walk today, and to return on Wednesday morning (I’ll need to leave home at 6 a.m.) to document what happens when they arrive at the State Capitol to present their demands.

Full album of photographs here, if you can access Facebook. Otherwise, a couple of Extras.
