Busy Day!

Started with a quick picture or two of the half-marathon runners down on the Prom. We had to head up town before the full marathon went by a bit later. We were off to our regular Socrates Cafe and then after lunch went to an engagement party for our friends R and G. From there it was up to the Royal Mile for a wee job taking pictures of a friend who is starting to run guided tours for visitors and needs some pictures for a web site. Back to Porty in time for mahjong in the evening. The party and job in the afternoon meant I wasn't watching the football - the Scottish Premiership/Championship playoff second leg between St Mirren and United. The first leg at Tannadice had been 0-0 and when I checked my phone at the party United had just taken the lead. It didn't last long as St Mirren equalised within minutes. And then, through the afternoon, each time I checked there was no change. Finally it went to penalties just as I got on the bus home. And United missed their first and St Mirren scored. United missed their second and St Mirren scored. United missed their third. Would St Mirren win in the most efficient way possible? No, they missed too. Still theoretically possible to come back. But not when United missed their fourth penalty too. So another season in the Championship for both my teams, north and south of the border. Has fate simply conspired against me and I am unlucky to support two teams that seem destined to fail at the final hurdle? Or is it not as bad as I think? (An analysis in more depth is called for.) Or has supporting these two teams made me who I am today? Something to ponder. As it is, derbies to look forward to as Dundee got relegated (as well as Arbroath getting promoted to the same league, as one Dons fan delighted in pointing out this evening). There has only been a handful of seasons when there hasn't been a Dundee team in the top league, and except for during World War One, only ever for one season at a time, so the omens are that at least one will go up next year. Here's hoping it's United.
