Merlot and Home Produce

One May we went to Genoa and in a back street bar in the old town near the docks were served unforgettable drinks with broad beans in their pods as the nibbles. Ever since then I have loved broad beans with red wine and today we were excited to harvest the first of our own broad beans and had to open a bottle of merlot (no Italian reds to hand) in their honour.
