Messing about on the Canal
A Sunday spent with Clive's side of the famliy.
We hired a narrowboat for the day and meandered from Kintbury to just beyond Hungerford.
We stopped for an onboard picnic lunch whilst it rained and then Clive had an altercation with a boatman who decided to spout a whole list of rules at us. Clearly, we were day trippers. We had only seen 3 other (moving) narrowboats until he came along. Our mistake was to moor for lunch where narrow boats queue to go through the locks. There were no other boats to queue. Anyway, this chap was angry from the get go and Clive answered him back. As he was ahead, he left us inconveniences, like turning the handle of the swing bridges so tightly, it was a struggle to release them and he left a couple of lock gates open so we had to spend more time navigating each one. However, we found his behaviour added to our entertainment.
Much fun was had! We slept well.
