Westminster Mile
Today Lyn had the honour of waving the starting flag for Wave 15 of the Westminster Mile alongside actor Jim Carter and the legendary athlete Mo Farah. Actually it was just Lyn and Jim who were scheduled to start the run but Sir Mo graciously agreed to a quick photoshoot. Once all the Wave 15 runners had started Lyn and Jim joined the back of the queue and completed the mile up the Mall, round St James's Park on Birdcage Walk and finishing outside Buckingham Palace.
Wave 15 was the 250 or so runners from Special Olympics GB and everyone finished within the allotted 20 minutes. Jim Carter is an ambassador for SOGB and Lyn is an athlete leader. There were many thousand runners of all ages participating. The atmosphere was lovely. I had a great chat to a young man from Extinction Rebellion and he had lots of positive feedback from the runners and spectators.
Lyn and I then left Green Park and tootled up to Kings Cross where we got the 13:00 train for Edinburgh. We didn't have seats reserved and were delighted to find a couple. Just north of London the rain has now started so we were very lucky that the Mile was completed in warm sunshine. Goodness knows when we'll be back in Stirling but it's been worth the trip.
