A path of gold
I slept long after yesterday's exertions around the water ingress. Wandered out to the main room, and saw that the sun was about to emerge from behind low clouds. Got the camera and went out to the steps leading to mother-in-law's home, and got this photo, and a few others, none quite as pleasing.
Swept the deck of all the pohutukawa seeds, and twigs. Then returned to the (no longer) flooded study, and spent the rest of the day shifting what needed to be out to get dry, and managing to get the last two of the sodden carpets up and outside. It's one way to get them cleaned. Not one I would have chosen.
Quite a number of the books which got wet are ones we had intended to dispose of. There were boxes with stuff waiting to be recycled or dumped (old computer cords, and a replaced router, as I don't like sending electronics to the dump). And a file box containing notes and pamphlets from some of our travels. And maps. No photos.
I think that there was probably a build up of water on the ceiling until a weak point was found which then burst through (by a light fitting) spraying water in a larger arc than where it was falling when I arrived. I think it had only been happening for a few hours or at most a day or two. Need to contact the insurer tomorrow.
