Taking Terns

A beautiful day! We decided to return to Minsmere. We started at the Island Mere were there some great views of Bittern and Marsh Harrier. in the afternoon, we visited the scrapes and saw lots of gulls and waders. There was also an exceptionally large group of Little Terns - more than 20 when we arrived, but by all accounts there were even more earlier. Terns are dumpy-looking birds on the ground but in the air, they transform into elegant acrobatic creatures. I took lots of photos and it was hard to choose my favourite but this Common Tern won out.
