Night of the Radishes

The Night of the Radishes (Dec. 23) has been a Oaxaca tradition for over 100 years. Entire scenes of the nativity, markets, posadas, carnivals, or whatever fanciful creation the artist can imagine are carved from radishes. These radishes are specially grown for their large size and weird shapes.

Dioramas are also made from dried flowers or corn husks. The creativity and patience of these artists is truly astounding!

Bands, music concerts, craft markets, fireworks, and an enormous variety of food and drinks make for one fun packed day and night!
