.... and after. (The before was yesterday)

We were up by 6:00 am this morning in order to be there when they imploded the historic Martin Tower .... the once global headquarters of Bethlehem Steel.  It was an amazing, but sad event to watch. And it happened soooo fast!!

Martin Tower was built between the years 1969 and 1972 ... and was finally occupied in 1972. It was named after Edmund F. Martin .... a chairman of Bethlehem Steel until 1970.  This building was the tallest building (21 stories) in the Lehigh Valley and in Pennsylvania outside of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.  And it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places since June 2010 .... so not sure how the new developers of the property got permission to tear it down. 

Neither one of us has even witnesses an implosion before so we just had to be there to see it happen .... even though it has changed the Bethlehem skyline forever.  I have added an extra picture taken from the same spot as yesterday .... see the difference? 

After getting our "after" pictures this afternoon we headed up to Jacobsburg State Park and stopping at the Plainfield Rail Trail on the way home.  It was hotter that hot today .... something we aren't used to just yet.  Yesterday R had removed the winter cover from the pool so when we got home I put my foot in to cool off a bit.  The water is still freezing cold so no swimming yet!
