Aida at the Sage
Trying to get back to normal, whatever that is, so had a gym session then called at a friend’s with her birthday present.
Aida, Opera North, was a sell out at the Sage. We were on level 2. At first I was disappointed as I couldn’t hear the singing for the orchestra which wasn’t in the pit, but instead was on the stage with the soloists, and the fantastic chorus was on our level. There was no set, just a few props. I adapted and it was all fantastic. Especially the orchestra and chorus - all very emotional, slightly marred by the loud posh old man behind us who kept asking his shrill daughter the plot. Then when lights dimmed and all was quiet for the last act, he said “So it’s the strapping lass who is Aida and the dark one is the strumpet?”. “Ssh Dad it’s starting”. I was waiting for him to say “She’s gone” at the end.
