Morningtown Ride
After being given the heads up by a friend that, 'a steam train has just passed our house and it will pass you any minute!' I grabbed the camera, wrong lens but tough, and shot down our lane in the car to get to the railway crossing. Loads of cars were parked up and it was heaving with the usual trainspotters; lenses primed and ready to go. A kind man luckily let me sneak in to grab a few shots.
The locomotive Clun Castle 7029, built in 1950 in Swindon and designed by Charles Collett, was later modified with a double chimney and had a boiler with a four row super heater. She was the final Castle Class built with her moment of glory coming in 1964 when she hauled the Plymouth in a special railtour reaching 100mph.
