Maintaining the Humidity.

SInce we moved, our old Piano has struggled to get used to the change. It is a wooden framed piano built in the 1800's and our old house didn't have central heating, in this house we do. So, it was becoming difficult to tune as  the humidity was too low for the piano, it was drying out. We now have a simple but effective device fitted in the top of the piano. Essentially it is a plastic tube containing a sponge, this is periodically soaked in water and it then helps to maintain a higher humidity within the instrument. We also have a hygrometer to keep an eye on the humidity level. This has been in place for several weeks and today, our piano tuner came and spent the morning getting it back in tune. It now sounds lovely.
