Opening Night

The new basketball arena is officially open, and the Santa Cruz Warriors won 93-88 in front of a sold out house. Santa Cruz's own American Idol singer, James Durbin, opened with the national anthem; there were free t-shirts and balloons, some indoor fireworks, cheerleaders and breakdancers and bicycle jumpers and confetti. The strange sea turtle mascot must have lost 10 pounds dancing in that furry costume, and the basketball drill team made the most spectacular upside down shots I've ever seen. All that and a basketball game too!
