Dorset Day 1

Well I certainly had a full day today. After breakfast I headed to Portland Bill (about an hours drive from the hotel), it was so beautiful there, I saw some Guillemots and Razorbills too to tick off my list :-). Then I drove another 15 minutes to Abbotsbury Swannery. Wow, that was awesome. So many swans. I arrived there just as the mass feeding was taking place, and I was allowed to feed the swans too. Normally it's just for kids, but as there were only a couple of children there, they let the adults do it too. The ranger told us that this was the only place where swans come back and are non aggressive. Normally when they are nesting the males are so territorial but not here. It's the only place in the world where a wild swan colony is managed. Once the cygnets are old enough the swans fly away but always return again to breed. There were lots of cute cygnets about too. After the Swannery (and lunch) I drove 30 minutes back to RSPB Lodmoor, a nature reserve and saw lots of wild birds there. A great day all round.
