Lull before the storm?
Windy & wet overnight but got to over +10°C and forecasting up to +20°C tomorrow! Flood warnings out for much of Bavaria particularly around the Danube & further north. Here it doesn't seem to be too bad.
Boring day but mainly dry, I mucked out while Angie rode out with the dogs, Flash hiding in the forest most of the time probably due to the wind. Then I messed around in the garden, found some nice radishes & looked in the unheated greenhouse to see the lettuce grwing merrily and the few celery plants I didn't harvest before the frost are sprouting.
Afternoon on the sofa while Angie packed Christmas presents. Little Lord Fauntleroy (now German Xmas tradition) followed by Downton Abbey parts 1+2 (probably soon to be German Xmas tradition), early evening Rosamunde Pilcher (a must for all those who claim they know the outcome from the start) and just ended the 1st of two episodes of Inspector Barnaby. To break up the two parts a quick 35 minute documentary on Kate & William titled "Mission Succession" and all these programmes are on the 2 main German public TV channels, ARD & ZDF!
Ask any German what he associates with New Years Eve and he will say "Dinner for One" and when you as a Brit say you don't know what they are talking about, they look at you totally perplexed! Understandably perhaps as it is the most often repeated TV programme worldwide - only 18 minutes long & in English!. Alone on the German public channels, it can be seen about 10 times on New Years Eve.
Hope you all had a good day's Sunday shopping (strictly forbidden here in Bavaria) & probably you'll be out all day tomorrow raiding Tesco's. Germany closes down at midday & the main event takes place early evening although the meal, particularly in Bavaria, is very simple e.g. sausages & potato salad, probably to reflect the simple surroundings in which Christ was born.
