Innocence

80 years young today and blissfully unaware that it is her birthday. Family and friends gather to celebrate and my Nan, doesn’t have a clue why, even though she has been told and wished happy birthday several times. She asked me who’s birthday it was, I said “it’s yours Nan.” She asks how old she is, I tell her and she becomes overwhelmed. Not long after this, she had forgotten the conversation we had.
This is the reality of dementia.
Counting my blessings that she still remembers who we are.
I wouldn’t be who I am today without the influences of this amazing lady. I am forever grateful.
