Aperture on Life

Almost Christmas

In Albury Park there is theChurch of St. Peter and St. Paul. Although it was made redundant after a new church was consecrated in 1842, it's an important church of Saxon and Norman origin and is open to be seen daily. There are very few services held other than at Easter, Midsummer and the Carol Service at Christmas.

I took Mother down to the carols this evening. The church has no electricity so the tree, speakers, lectern and one single spot light are powered by a generator. Candle lit flower compositions adorn the window sills, providing the only other light. I managed to stand still enough to take this without a flash.

It's a family service. Traditional carols, traditional readings and traditionally, most of the villagers attend. The Independent, recently listed it on the top of best British carol services. When asked how many of the attendees had come due to the newspapers accolades, very few lifted their hands. It just happens to be on my doorstep and was a brilliant start to Christmas.

Not so good. Mother ate a mince pie and indulged in a glass of mulled wine. Now sick! Oh well, these things happen.

Now waiting for Lady D to arrive to brighten my evening!
