Mom listening to the sounds of water - Happy Place
Up early, mom was feeling ok and away we went.. A short ways off the freeway exit, we saw 4 Elk.. We both knew it was going to be a great day. Headed to a wonderful breakfast, walked the town, slowly drove towards the campgrounds, stopping here and there and finally just sat and listened to the water for awhile.. Headed back to town, saw a few things we missed, had supper and then came home... Happy Mothers Day mom...
Roslyn Washington was founded as a coal mining town (although they mined gold, silver, lead, and...too) so in the first extra is a collage to miners. Upper left is the local miners union, bottom left - One day they thought all the miners were out of the mines when they set off some dynamite - one was still in the mine and was killed - that lead to this medallion board where every miner had one and before dynamite was set off, every medallion had to be in it's place. The center photo is dedicated to the couple hundred miners who lost their lives in the mines in this area. The photo on the right is an oxygen tank a miner went down with to test the air before other were sent in. The worst mine accident in the state of Washington happened here - 45 miners lost their life that day...
In the second extra is a small part of the cemetery. Like many of this era, people were segregated here too. Including an area for children who died of epidemics and the miners who bodies they were able to recover.
Ending on a happy note, in the third extra is the town. Upper left is a small view of it. Lower left is one of the homes, lower center is two of the Elk we saw, Upper right is the towns Catholic Church. The lower right? Well that's a really special photo. Some might remember a television series from the early 90's called Northern Exposure, this is the town they filmed much of the series in and that is the cafe they ate at..
A wonderful day with mom...
