Poppies

There is a whole bed of volunteer poppies out back, the stalks so tall I have to hold  the camera up overhead to get a shot. Most of them are this four petal variety in reds, purple and pink, and a few are fluffy pink pompoms. Although we could use the bed to put in some summer vegetables, there is no way I want to remove these flowers right now. I scatter seeds every year, hoping they will come up in all the blank areas of the garden, but the plants are very particular and only want to grow where we'd prefer to feature something else. They are gorgeous, especially in the late afternoon light.
