Common Tern #55
After a rare lie in and a few chores, I decided to go over to Penny Flash for a couple of hours. It was quite sunny but the wind was quite strong and from Horrock's hide right into your face so it was really cold. Gloves and fleece were definitely needed.
I was greeted by a quick visit from a common sandpiper which was nice and there were some really cute ducklings which couldn't have been more than a day or two old - real little cute bundles of fluff.
But what I was most interested in were the terns that were noisily squawking at each other on the spit. They were all common terns, which I think are very elegant birds, apart from one which was a black tern. I've not seen one of these before so I was happy to add it to my list. Unfortunately it was way too far away for a shot.
I then went to Ramsdale Hide in search of the kingfisher but it was nowhere to be seen. There were a pair of little ringed plovers who seemed to be making themselves at home, so fingers crossed they will breed and that would be great.
I went back to Horrock's on the way back to the car to see if the black tern would come any closer, but it remained stubbornly out of range.
Back home and more jobs to do as I am back in Sweden again on Monday.
I apologise for my lack of interaction over the past week. I will try and catch up at some stage I hope. Thanks for continuing to visit my journal and leave stars, hearts and lovely comments - you really are a great bunch of blipmates.
