Waving off...
A busy day of European Election campaigning in both Rothesay and Dunoon , with a good reaction - though people are very fed up with Brexit and Westminster.
However my first task today was a first for me - "waving off" a charity cycle run on Bute organised by Bute Community Cycling and Bute Wheels in aid of the Scottish Association for Mental Health.
There were over 60 participants who set out on three different courses - 40 miles for the keen and experienced, 22 miles (a circuit of the island) for those who wanted to make aslightly less intense day of it and a gentler 10 miles to and from Mountstuart for families and those just starting out.
When I arrived at the Yacht club to perform my not very energetic part in the overall event there was a black and white chequered flag being tied to a lamppost.
My hopes rose that I would get to use it, but but it was not to be, so the "waving" was symbolic rather than actual. But an honour to be asked, none the less.
