Hiding in the Shadows

I don't know which one of us was most surprised as I looked down and saw this adder slither into a tuft of grass with a bowl of leaves in it's centre right at my feet! Far too good a photo opportunity to miss and keeping the dogs well back I managed to get down, remove a few grass stems to get a shot and not suffer the consequences. Luckily!

Walking the dogs on Prestbury Hill this afternoon where it was a bit blowy for macro pictures, coming across this was a great piece of luck. I just was thankful it wasn't Tilly or Poppy who found it first.
