Last day in WA
We are catching the 11.55pm flight from Perth to Sydney so we had the day to fill in.
First we caught the Red Cat ( free bus service for CBD) to the Perth underground rail. After an unbelievably long period of time and lots of laughs we obtained three tickets to Fremantle on the train ( $2 each). The attendant said we did well as many people give up and can’t work out how to get a ticket at all. Half hour to Freo and then another ( free) Red Cat around the city. First stop was the newish Maritime Museum of WA. it’s hard to take decent photos in a museum but I rather liked the fish in my main picture. They were stuck into a bicycle basket for transport.
The main thing of interest was the Australia11 yacht which won the America’s Cup back in 1983(?). I had seen it before but it bought back happy memories of that exciting time in our sporting history.
Next stop via another Red Cat was the old Fremantle Gaol. It’s an imposing building with awful conditions for inmates (originally convicts but in latter days as a maximum security prison). It closed in 1991.
So that’s that, we had a great time over in the west and will be glad to go home for a rest.
PS we caught a bus home from Freo to Perth. $2 each. I can’t believe the sensible, cheap and well organised public transport here. The eastern states could learn a thing or two from Perth.
