Looking For Marlene
A day of learning things. I did not know that the 1930 film The Blue Angel (Der blaue Engel) was based on the Heinrich Mann book "Professor Unrat". The film is probably best known for Marlene Dietrich singing this song.
I was told that the original nightclub was here in Lübeck and so I had to track it down. Having seen it, I'm more than a little sceptical. If it was the real Blue Angel (and it's Blauer Engel ond not Blaue Engel because there is no definite article), I'm sure it would be a real money spinner. As it is, it's up a very unpreposessing street and it looks more than a little kaputt.
The conference this afternoon was good. Occasionally a few too many acronyms but I survived.
And this evening I met up with a couple of friends for a long walk and dinner. Dinner was the first thing I've eaten since last night and thankfully it wasn't the standard enough-for-five portion. It was probably enough for three though. It was really good to sit and chat and laugh - I probably don't do that enough.
Oh and the Devil is not in the details today, he's in my Extra. Although I'm willing to admit he looks a bit more like Pan or Mr Tumnus.
