The Bishop of Barf

From the lane by the rally field you can see the whitewashed stone known as the Bishop on Barf Fell. (Just above the tree line in the centre of this shot). It is said to mark the spot where a Bishop fell from his horse and died. This was following (probably a drunken) bet with his Clerk that he could win a competition with him to ride up the fell. Every year the pub at the bottom rewards whoever goes up there on foot to repaint it. Thank you for all your kind comments and stars for yesterday’s journal.
