Aaron and I had always planned to go to this game, not realising how much would be riding on it. Pure and simple Walsall had to win. The fact that they couldn't do that made Plymouth's and Southend's wins irrelevant...at least to Walsall anyway. Relegation confirmed.

First half Walsall were woeful. Playing like that the only surprise was that they'd actually made it to the last day with a -slim- chance of staying in League 1 next season at all. Shrewsbury should have had the game won by half time.
Second half was much better from the Saddlers but they just couldn't craft out the lucky break to get the goal they needed. Had they managed that goal though Plymouth and Southend winning would have meant relegation anyway.

The final whistle brought the end of season juxtaposition between despair of the Walsall players lying prone on the pitch knowing they were relegated and job-done as the Shrewsbury players thanked the home fans for their support.
